Cruising Checklist

Hull and Deck

Check flares, day signals, etc.

Check flashlight and batteries

Check that accessory equipment operates correctly

Check that radio working

Check that spare batteries for accessories are charged

Check that there are charts for the cruising area

Check that there is power to the entire vessel

Check the boat's papers, radio license, engine and accessory literature and manuals on-board

Check weather forecast

Inform the crew and passengers of P.F.D location and use

Inform the crew of the location of fire extinguishers

Setup one anchor and bent-on to the anchor line

Electrical

Check battery charging switches are in proper position

32-volt DC system

12-volt DC system

Clean battery terminals and tighten

Charge batteries

Check battery fluid level and top-off with distilled water

Test all navigation and instrumental lights

Plumbing

Inspect through-hulls, seacocks, hoses and clamps

Engines and Transmissions -- Includes drive engines and the electrical generator

Check engine oil and coolant levels

Check transmission oil level
          Fluid level is checked with engine off and using 30 weight oil

Check that cooling water intake valves are open

Check that fuel tanks are topped-off

Check throttle shift

Test bilge blower and inspect vent

Bilge

Test manual and automatic operation of each bilge pump. Inspect that area is clean
