Decommissioning Checklist

Before Hauling

Remove all electronic gear that may require servicing during the winter
Remove all food supplies from lockers and ice chest
Remove all gear such as books, documents, bedding P.F.D., anything moveable that is subject to rust, corrosion or mildew
Empty all drawers, cabinets and lockers, clean and spray with an antiseptic to prevent mold and mildew
Everything inside the cabin should be clean and dry to avoid molds and mildew problems
Clean and spray inside cabin with mold & mildew cleaner

4qt. water
1qt bleach
2/3 cup TSP

Wax countertops and stainless steel sinks and faucets
Ensure that cockpit and deck scuppers are open and free
If cushions are left aboard bring cockpit cushions below and place all cushions on edge to encourage ventilation
Leave all interior lockers open to encourage ventilation
Open the refrigerator, open all doors, drawers and lockers and prop up cushions so air can circulate around them
Remove fire extinguishers for weighing, checking and any necessary re-charging
Scrub head, floors, refrigerator and surfaces with hot soapy water
Spray head, shower area and refrigerator with a mildewcide
Vacuum and spot clean carpets, curtains and upholstery
Wash out ice chest interior with a weak solution of Clorox. Leave ice chest lid open
Wash topsides, deck and all other exterior surfaces
Wax all except the non-skid surfaces

Electrical

Check shore power feed
Check battery charging switches are in proper position
Charge batteries
Check battery fluid level and top-off with distilled water
Disconnect positive and negative battery terminals

Engine

Fill fuel tanks and add fuel stabilizer
Flush engine with fresh water
Replace antifreeze mixture
Warm up engines and drain the oil
Replace fuel filters and check for leaks
Replace oil filters and check for leaks
Seal off fuel tank breathers
Use heavy grease to seal off threads on fuel filler caps

Transmission

Check transmission oil level
          Fluid level is checked with engine off and using 30 weight oil

Fresh Water System

Drain hot water heater
Drain fresh water tank
Blowout each faucet until dry
Open all fresh water valves throughout the boat
Open all the valves on the fresh water distribution manifold

Gray Water System

Pump out and clean the holding tank

Add cleaner such as Vanish crystals let sit for 5-10 minutes then pump out
Add fresh water through bowl and repeat several times
Add fresh water and pump out one last time
Add antifreeze and pump through hoses, holding tank, Y-valve, macerator and discharge hose

Bilge

Clean any oil in the bilge with an oil absorbent pad, soapy, hot water and a stiff brush. If soaked with oil or antifreeze clean with acetone and sodiumtriphosphate.

After Hauling

Hull and Deck

Pressure-wash the hull to remove growth and loose paint
Clean props, shafts, rudders and struts and trim tabs
Inspect hull
Paint bottom and replace Zincs
Open all seacocks
Clean through-hull openings and sea strainers
Clean and lubricate all deck hardware
Covered boat
Remove all dock lines. Soak in bucket of soap and fabric softener then machine wash and dry

If Not Hauling

Electrical

Check all electrical equipment
Check battery charging switches are in proper position
32-volt DC system

12-volt DC system

Check battery fluid level and top-off with distilled water
Check shore power feed
Clean battery terminals and tighten
Inspect battery ties down straps
Insure battery-charging system is on and working

Close all seacocks
Install bubbling system around the boat
Test manual and automatic operation of each bilge pump. Inspect that area is clean
Tighten shaft seals, if water still comes in repack stuffing boxes
