Naples, Florida to Longport, New Jersey (Day 5)
![]()
Wednesday, May 5, 1999, Day 5 at Fernandina Harbor Marina, FL The day began at 06:00 with a search for a local diesel mechanic. The forty year old starter on the port engine had stopped working. The mechanic arrived at approximately 08:30 and removed the starter for further investigation back at the shop. Breakfast consisted of buttered cinnamon toast from a local store near-by. Later the mechanic returned to say that the old starter could not be rebuilt and that a new one would need to be installed. Therefore, the forty-plus year old starter was the first casualty of the trip, so much for quality. It rained all day off and on with the temperature holding in the seventies and the winds calm. Lunch was at a local Irish pub and restaurant in the town of Fernandina followed by afternoon "power naps" for all. Dinner in the evening was at a local sea food restaurant. |
