![]()
Tuesday, May 11, 1999, Day 11, Swan Point Marina, SC With the engine and transmission fluids checked and all the electronic gear tested, Independence got underway at 06:20. The weather forecast was for calm seas, clear skies and a light breeze. Breakfast was sausage gravy and biscuits with fruit and hot coffee. Traffic on the ICW was light and Independence was making good speed. At approximately 09:00 the bottom went from twelve feet of water to three feet without warning. At that point, the port propeller caught the bottom and bent. An under water inspection confirmed that the prop was bent. Independence proceeded to limp north to Morehead City and the Taylor Boat Works for repairs and arrived at 11:30. At 16:00 Independence was hauled out of the water on the yards marine rail. The two propellers were changed and the boat back in the water by 17:00. Independence then proceeded north to the Morehead City Marina for the evening. Dinner was at a local Italian restaurant two blocks away from the marina. |
