Naples, Florida to Longport, New Jersey (Day 14)
![]()
Friday, May 14, 1999, Day 14, Onancock Dock, VA In the morning, Independence refueled taking on 206 gallons of diesel fuel and got underway heading out into the Chesapeake. There was a Small Craft Advisory posted with northeast winds at twenty knots and gusting to thirty knots. Wave heights were predicted to be three feet, with rain lightly. As Independence came to the outer channel marker of Onancock the decision was made to turn around and head back in because of the sea conditions. At 10:30 Independence tied backup at the Onancock Dock. The day was spent looking around the small town of Onancock, doing choirs and taking "power naps." Dinner was at the dockside restaurant, the Eastern Shore Steamboat Co. Restaurant, and was enjoyed by all. |
