Independence got underway from the Chesapeake Inn Marina and continued the transit through the C&D canal heading West to the Chesapeake Bay. Entering the Chesapeake Bay Independence followed a southerly course heading to St. Michaels.

The weather was hot with a light breeze. Temperature in the mid eighties. The waters in the canal and bay were calm and made for easy cruising.

Cruising speed to the Chesapeake Museum was at 1,800 RPMs with an average speed of a little over 13 knots. Approximate distance 53 NM.

Independence pulled into the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum at 14:30 and tied-up along one of the transient dock. The bathrooms and showers at the maritime museum were clean and convenient.
