Independence got underway from the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and pulled in to the fuel dock at the St. Michaels Mariana. After taking on 274 Gal. of diesel fuel Independence was underway again and headed towards the Chesapeake Bay.

The weather was clear skies, hot, light breeze. Calm seas in the Chesapeake Bay and the C&D canal. Temperature in the eighties. Again the decision was made to go outboard of Kent Island and avoid the Kent Narrows straight and bridge. Independence exited the Eastern Bay and turned on a Northerly course with the Bloody Point Bar Lighthouse to Port and heading to the center span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Buoy hopping is a safe and favored form of navigation and used by many boaters which entails simply sailing from one buoy to the next. The buoys are normally set in the deepest part of a channel in order to accommodate the larger ships. After reviewing the navigation charts Independence chose the more direct, straight line navigation approach. thereby saving time.

At 16:30 Independence tied up at the long transient dock at the Chesapeake Inn Restaurant and Marina.

The bathrooms and showers were clean and convenient..

Cruising speed to the Chesapeake Marina was 1,500 RPMs with an average speed of almost 11 knots. Approximate distance 40 NM.
