The forecast for Wednesday was for strong scattered thunder storms. The decision was made to forego the stop at the South Jersey Marina, Cape May, NJ on Tuesday evening and instead just cruise on to Margate, NJ. cutting the trip short by one day.

Independence got underway from the Chesapeake Inn - Restaurant and Marina and headed East on the C&D canal towards the Delaware River. After exiting the canal Independence then turned South, South East on a straight line course NNW to SSE to begin the sixty mile run down the Delaware Bay towards the Cape May Canal

Independence entered the Cape May Canal at 14:30 and made the transit out to the Atlantic and the turn North heading to Great Egg Harbor Inlet.

During the run up the Atlantic Independence cruised about two miles off shore in order to avoid the rollers that were experienced at the beginning of the trip. That meant a lot of course deviations in order to avoid all of the off shore dredging equipment that were replenishing the eroded beach sand along the South Jersey beaches.

Cruising speed to the Sunset Marina was 1,700 RPMs with an average speed of 12 knots. Approximate distance 124 NM.

Independence arriver back in Longport, NJ and took on 238 gallons of diesel fuel. Her “Normal” standard cruising speed was 1,700 RPMs with a fuel burn rate of 19 GPH.

The trip ended when Independence pulled into the her home marina (Sunset Marina, Margate, NJ) at 6pm where everyone enjoyed an Italian dinner at the marina restaurant.
