The forecast for Wednesday was for strong scattered thunder storms. The decision was made to forego the stop at the South Jersey Marina, Cape May, NJ on Tuesday evening and instead just cruise on to Margate, NJ. cutting the trip short by one day. Independence got underway from the Chesapeake Inn - Restaurant and Marina and headed East on the C&D canal towards the Delaware River. After exiting the canal Independence then turned South, South East on a straight line course NNW to SSE to begin the sixty mile run down the Delaware Bay towards the Cape May Canal Independence entered the Cape May Canal at
14:30 and made the transit out to the Atlantic and the turn North
heading to Great Egg Harbor Inlet. Cruising speed to
the Sunset Marina was 1,700 RPMs with an average speed
of 12 knots.
